Another longtime Upper West Side watering hole is on its way out. The bar, which has been pouring drinks on Amsterdam Avenue for 32 years, announced this week that it’s lost its lease and will be closing next month. Its space has already hit the market, and the listing gives a pretty clear picture of what the landlord’s hoping to see there next.

Jake’s Dilemma, at 430 Amsterdam Avenue between 80th and 81st Streets, will close on October 18, the bar shared on Instagram. “After 32 years on the Upper West Side, we’re heartbroken to share that we lost our lease,” the post reads.

The announcement leans into what the place has meant to regulars over the years: “late nights, game days, first dates, bad decisions, lifelong friendships, incredible staff, and more stories than we could ever fit into one post.” Jake’s is inviting everyone who’s worked, drank, or celebrated there to stop in for “One Last Round” before the 18th, and says more is coming as it marks its final weeks.
The team behind Jake’s – Eat Drink & Be Merry – operates bars throughout the city, including The Gin Mill.
As for the space itself, it’s being marketed by KSR as a “rare full-service restaurant opportunity.” The listing calls for 2,500 square feet on the ground floor plus a 1,900-square-foot lower level with restrooms, private dining, and a prep area. It has 20 feet of frontage, 12-foot ceilings, and a full liquor license already in place, which the brokers pitch as a “plug-and-play advantage for the right operator.” Venting is listed as possible. Asking rent is available upon request.
The floor plans still show the bar’s current layout, beer pong tables and DJ booth included. The brokers, though, are picturing something different: the listing says the space is “ideal for upscale sit-down dining or premium healthy concepts.”
