Three Daniel Boulud restaurants went dark on the same Broadway block last year, and the pre-theater crowd has been making other plans ever since. That’s about to change.

Brasserie Boulud, the French brasserie taking over the combined former footprint of Boulud Sud, Bar Boulud and Épicerie Boulud at 1900 Broadway at West 64th Street, is expected to open on Sept. 17, according to the New York Times. Reservations open on Sept. 1.It’s Boulud’s first real brasserie in New York, which is a little surprising given that he’s a Lyon native and grew up around them.
The menu sticks to brasserie standards, with charcuterie, seafood, steaks and classics like onion soup, escargots and steak frites. A few dishes are coming back from the rooms that closed, including merguez sausage and spaghetti with saffron from Boulud Sud, along with the DB Burger stuffed with foie gras. New additions include a timbale of homard à l’Américaine, and a prix fixe pre-theater menu is in the works. Head sommelier Josh MacGregor is pouring wines by the glass from oversize bottles, with an emphasis on Beaujolais.
Christina D’Angelo is the executive chef. She ran the kitchen at Boulud Sud and has worked with Boulud for more than a decade.
The Rockwell Group designed the room around a large, dramatically lit oval bar, and the retail épicerie is folded into the layout rather than left behind. The Times reports the space holds 320 seats indoors and out, making it Boulud’s biggest restaurant in the city.
The timing lines up with Lincoln Center’s fall calendar. The New York Philharmonic opens on Sept. 10, and on Sept. 22 the Metropolitan Opera opens with Lise Davidsen while New York City Ballet kicks off its season with Balanchine.
