The Gin Mill, at 442 Amsterdam Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets, has been serving the Upper West Side since the mid-1990s. On Tuesday, March 24, the bar marks its 30th anniversary with a party featuring live music by Kacie Sky and half-price drinks all day and night.
The Gin Mill opened during a period when Amsterdam Avenue was establishing itself as a nightlife corridor, and it has outlasted most of the bars that defined that era. Over three decades, it has built a following among locals, hospitality workers, and visitors drawn to its consistent, high-energy atmosphere and accessible pricing.
The bar occupies two levels. Upstairs is the main room — a lively, all-day space with sports programming and a long-running happy hour. Downstairs is a separate speakeasy-style room that operates on a different register entirely, hosting live jazz, private events, and curated performances throughout the week.
Over the years, The Gin Mill has played host to first dates, birthday parties, industry gatherings, and late-night sessions — the kind of repeat business that has kept an Amsterdam Avenue bar open for 30 years.
“The Gin Mill has always been about bringing people together,” said ownership. “Whether it’s your first night out in the neighborhood or your thousandth, there’s something special about walking through those doors and knowing you’re part of the party.”
The 30th anniversary party takes place Tuesday, March 24. The Gin Mill is located at 442 Amsterdam Avenue between 81st and 82nd streets.
