The Upper West Side food scene is absorbing a pair of fresh blows this week, with two neighborhood spots — one a longtime tenant, the other a relative newcomer — both shutting their doors. Tips on both closings come courtesy of Dave Cook, the owner of @EatingInTranslation.

The longer goodbye belongs to Texas Rotisserie & Grill, which has occupied the corner of Broadway and 97th Street for 32 years. A sign posted in the window delivers the news in the restaurant’s own words, thanking loyal customers while citing the same pressures that have claimed so many neighborhood institutions before it: a steep rent increase compounded by rising operating costs. “Maintaining the quality and value you deserve became unsustainable,” the note reads.
The restaurant says it plans to remain open through March 22nd — giving regulars a few more weeks to stop in one final time. A Texas Rotisserie location on the Upper East Side, operating under separate ownership, is expected to continue operating.
The Moon Fish Market, 903 Columbus Avenue

The Moon Fish Market set up shop at 903 Columbus Avenue (between 104th and 105th streets) roughly two years ago and is now closed. The spot occupied the space previously held by Ceafood Bar and Restaurant, and built a following for its seafood offerings served fresh, fried, grilled, or steamed — including what Dave Cook, visiting about a year ago, described as a whiting sandwich worth seeking out. (His post is here.)
