A longtime Upper West Side resident was killed earlier this week after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Riverside Drive, police said.

Geoffrey Radbill, 78, was biking northbound near 820 Riverside Drive in Washington Heights at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, when a silver 2021 Toyota sedan hit him from behind, according to the NYPD. Radbill was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The 37-year-old driver remained at the scene. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate the fatal crash, police said.

Beyond the tragic circumstances of his death, Radbill was widely remembered this week for a life marked by professional success and philanthropy. Per a report by Streetsblog, he was a successful financier and a generous supporter of his alma mater, Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where a renovated portion of the Mathematical Sciences Building was named in his honor in 2023.

In a tribute shared on social media, Bowling Green State University President Rodney Rogers announced that the lights of the Geoffrey H. Radbill Center for College and Life Design were dimmed Sunday night to honor Radbill’s passing.

“Because of Geoff’s support and belief in the power of a Bowling Green experience, thousands of students have gained life-changing opportunities through Life Design,” Rogers wrote, adding that Radbill’s legacy “will forever shape our University and the lives of future Falcons.”

Rogers also reflected on Radbill’s personal qualities, describing him as hard-working, humble, kind, and deeply devoted to the university community. “On a personal level, Geoff was a friend, and I will miss his counsel, advice and ideas — he was always up for a call to dream big,” he wrote.

The university extended condolences to Radbill’s family, including his partner, Jan Kohn, and said plans are underway to further honor his legacy in 2026.
