A 57-year-old woman was pronounced dead after colliding with a truck while riding her scooter this weekend. The incident took place at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday on West 76th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. It was first shared on Citizen App about an hour after it happened, though details were partial at that point – and not completely accurate, as the person who shared the video reported the victim as a man.

Police officials tell ILTUWS that 57-year-old Anastasia Ledwith, who lived about a block away, was traveling east on West 76th Street on a gas-powered scooter “when it struck the rear passenger-side tire of a Mack tractor operated by a 50-year-old male, also traveling eastbound on West 76 Street. EMS responded and pronounced the 57-year-old female deceased on scene. The operator of the tractor remained on scene. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.”

Ledwith’s wife, Valerie Perez, told the NY Daily News that while her scooter-riding did cause her concern, “…she was super good at it” and that she always wore a helmet.

“She lived on my block and would always say hello to my dogs and I,” a neighbor shared on Facebook after hearing news of the tragic incident. “My heart stopped when I saw her photo in this article. I’m so sorry dear neighbor. May you receive heaven’s warmest reception.”

Other Facebook posts indicate that Ledwith was from Cherry Grove in Suffolk County, Long Island, where she was a “community icon.”

“Our community is heartbroken but if you knew Stacy C Ledwith at all you would know: she would not want you to be sad, she would want u to grab your shoe to answer the call then dance the night away,” another person wrote.
