The Ellington will reopen on Wednesday, September 8 at its new home at 2745 Broadway, between 105th and 106th Streets.
This space was most recently home to Boulevard Seafood, which closed in mid-2019, about a year after opening. Before them, long-time favorite Henry’s had occupied the space since 1999.
We first got word that The Ellington’s owner, Glenda Sansone, had leased the Broadway storefront in late 2019. She told us at the time that she had wanted to move there for years, and that she was having trouble with the small size and high rent at her now former location at 936 Amsterdam Ave (at 106th Street), which she first opened in 2013.

She announced in July 2020 that The Ellington would not be renewing its lease on Amsterdam. “We are sorry & sad The Ellington will not reopen after covid, however we are happy to say we will back again very soon at a new location only one block away,” she wrote at the time. “Thank you for all your support over the past seven years, without your support a bigger and better location would not of been possible.”
The current tenant at 936 Amsterdam Ave is Mexican restaurant Calaveras Corner.
Since securing the new storefront a block west of her old one, Sansone has been keeping her patrons posted with images of construction progress shared on The Ellington’s Instagram page.

The Ellington is currently seeking new hires in anticipation of its opening next month.
Since opening in 2013, The Ellington has been a popular neighborhood spot for its friendly staff, gastropub fare, cocktails and rotating specials (like its “wing Wednesdays”).
